I have totally jumped on the online shopping bandwagon. There’s something so satisfying about browsing a website in your PJs from the comfort of your own home, checking back on your cart a few days later, and finally placing that purchase. The package comes in the mail full of promise, the unveiling of the items much more exciting than after a “traditional” shopping trip.

Just when I thought online shopping couldn’t get any better, I heard about Ebates. Operating in both Canada and the U.S., Ebates is a free service that allows you to earn cash back on your online purchases (from participating stores). Just access the online shopping site of your choice through Ebates, make your purchase, and within a few days your account will be credited accordingly. The cash back rates depend on the site and promotion, but they can be pretty substantial. Sephora.com was recently 8% cash back, and around Boxing Day I placed an order on the Body Shop Canada website and received 12% cash back. Even the most “mass” sites like eBay and Amazon participate!

Given Ebates is free and requires little effort to use, it’s an awesome way to get a kick back from online purchases and mitigate shipping costs. The links above are for the direct sites, but if you access the site through my referral links (here for Canada, here for U.S.), it would make my day!
